A second half capitulation saw London Welsh 2nds fall to their heaviest defeat of the season. In awful conditions a tight first half saw both sides struggle to come terms with the boggy playing surface. London Welsh made slightly the better start and within the first 5 minutes should have taken the lead, the Manorians keeper saving well from JP and Adam blasted the rebound over from close range. Gradually Manorians got a foot hold into the game and a string of excellent passing moves saw them create several good chances which were either wasted or well saved by Phil in goal. A couple of superb through balls saw Sam race through only to be brought down by shocking challenges, both times the ref deemed that it wasn't a goal scoring opportunity and bottled handing out a red card. Maybe he'd seen Sam's finishing before and though he'd never score because it certainly was done to the presence of any defenders blocking his path to goal. Manorians took the lead courtesy of a shocking defensive error, Phil who had been struggling with goal kicks due to a foot injury handed over the kicking duties to Brian who's first goal kick went straight to the Manorians centre forward who raced clear to open the scoring. Towards the end of the first half an assault by Greg and Damo on the touchline saw a free kick awarded in what looked like a fairly safe area of the pitch, however the Manorians player stepped up to curl the ball straight into the top corner from an impossible angle, 2 nil and Welsh were starting to struggle.
At half time the Welsh players were still optimistic of salvaging something from the game, however the second half proved to be the most disappointing 45 minutes of this and many other seasons. An early injury to Brian saw a major reshuffle, March slotting into centre back alongside Damo with JP coming in centre midfield, Adam dropping to left midfield and Floyd coming on up front. By this time the score was 3-0, Phin having tackled his own captain which resulted in a perfect through ball for the Manorians centre forward to score. Heads had dropped and further anguish was bestowed on the Welsh team as Manorians scored 5 more goals which truth could have been many more. A few more chances were squandered by the Welsh players without testing the Manorians keeper but there was never going to be a way back into this game.
The final word goes to JP who after several terrible players by the rate faced Manorians "midfielder" lost his normally cool facade and issued his war cry, a bought of handbags ensued with both players hoping that they didn't end up on the floor as it was a bit muddy!
All in all a shocking result and performance that is best forgotten and will hopefully be put right in the home fixture.
